Scheduled Downtime 8.24.07

We will have a little downtime on Friday morning to move the servers to a new location. It should only take an hour or so to complete the move. The ISP hasn't given us a timeline other than "Friday morning", so we're not exactly sure when it will happen.
Firewall asplode...

We had a big ol' chunk of downtime today due to the firewall tossing a power supply. We got everything reworked and took the opportunity to upgrade a few things at the same time.

I will be moving Haloader to a new server sometime in the next few weeks, so I expect there will be a slight bit of downtime there as well. I will post again once I have my schedule more ironed out.

Bungie Reset

Most of you know Bungie is resetting the stats/levels. We decided to take the opportunity to do the same. DON'T WORRY, your old games are still here... They are currently in an archive in the database. It will take me a bit of time to make these accessible again, so please be patient.

You will notice that the site stats might be a bit wonky for a few days. Also, some of your old games will inevitably be pulled in as well, so it won't be a *perfect* reset, but it will speed the site up beyond belief.

PLEASE READ!
I have noticed that we have a TON of guests viewing the site. Please keep in mind that if you are looking at the site and you are not logged in, you run the risk of being marked inactive and missing some games! Make sure you log in so you don't get marked inactive - there is currently no way for the site to go back and get old games that might have been missed.

If anything is funky, PM me (Gravity182) or post in the forums.
DB issue resolved

I just resolved another issue leftover from the DB upgrade. Should make things much smoother now. There will still be some speed issues, but overall, things should run much better now.

I also fixed a crashed table due to a power outage we had over the weekend. Let me know if anything is funky.

State of the site

I know some things have been a bit wonky lately. The database upgrade seems to have broken alot more than I originally thought. I still see a few lingering issues, but the site should be a bit more usable. It also looks like some gamertags were not getting updated all the time, some were updating sometimes, but not always and others were not updating all - while others were working just fine... Time permitting, I will continue to look into these things. Most of the issues should be fixed, but I am sure some lingering issues remain.

Also - I am considering dumping some of the games/stats from people that haven't been to the site in a loooong time. There are quite a few people that haven't played a game/logged in in over 6-12 months. The database size is over 90,000,000 records right now and is nearly 8GB in size which is causing the site to be quite slow. By "purging" these players who have not used the site, the users that actually come here and use the site will have a much faster interface.

I encourage anyone who does not think this is a good idea to speak up in a PM or in the forums. I will be considering this for a while and may implement it when I have free time. If you want to keep your games, all I can say is make sure you log in often, then even if I do purge anything, your games will be safe. This is by no means absolutely going to happen, but I just wanted to let you all know it is being considered.

Development on this version of HALOader is pretty much done at this point. The site really needs a ground-up rewrite which I would love to do, but I think it's a waste of time until Halo 3 comes out.
I just finished upgrading the database. Hopefully it will help the speed and stability a bit. Please PM me (Gravity182) if you run into any issues.
Games Spiders up again.

It was pointed out to me today that the game spiders were down and have been for some time. I have got them back up again and everything should be working as normal.

The Bungie levels will still be unavailable until I have a chance to update the code, Bungie changed the page structure, so the levels display here will not work and RealLife(tm) is taking most of my time right now. I will update that as I have time.

Xbox Live Presence added

Now you can see what HALOader members are doing on Xbox Live! This is really handy to see who on your watch list is online. Here is a key:

- Site member on HALOader & Xbox Live
- Site member on HALOader only
- Site member on Xbox Live only
- Site member offline
- Non-site member

Hover you mouse over the icons around the site to see a tooltip with what this gamer is doing. XBL status updated every 15 minutes.

Serious login bug fixed! -- DNS move completed.

Thanks to killzoned and a few others, I have finally been able to squish a nasty bug that made it nearly impossible to use the site. The bug garbled the login cookie and threw a A cookie was set, but it is invalid, Please login again. error. This should be all taken care of now, so please give it a shot and let me know if any issues persist.

I was quite amazed that only a few people seemed speak up about this issue, as many were affected.

Also, the DNS move has eben completed, so please update your bookmarks to www.haloader.com. halo2.jaian.com will still be accessible as long as it needs to be for those slow adopters.
